Artwork made for textile used for the artist edit collection / DRAWN
Client: Drawn
Title of artwork: Lilly of the Valley
For this artwork, I took inspiration from a drawing I made when I was six years old. (Scroll down to see my drawing from back then). It’s a drawing I’ve returned to again and again for inspiration, and with this piece I really wanted to dive deeper into its dreamy floral motifs and composition. I’ve always been drawn to children’s drawings. To me, they are a reminder to stay curious, to forgive myself, and not to strive for perfection. It’s the joy—and the struggle—of making the image that shines through. That honesty and directness are what make children’s drawings feel so magical and vibrant to me. And this artwork is sort of a tribute to that.
When I received the brief from Drawn, I imagined creating an artwork they could almost use like patchwork—splitting it into different pieces and recombining them in new ways. Drawn had complete creative freedom in how they used my artwork for their designs, and in return, they gave me almost complete creative freedom in making the artwork itself. It was such a joyful process. And also a little nerve-wracking to hand over my work and let go of control, not knowing how it would be translated into the final designs.
